Local Area
The local fells of Cumrew and Castle Carrock are a well-kept secret for walkers and cyclists and you can access all this from your doorstep. The Geltsdale RSPB Reserve and beyond take you up into some of the most unspoilt and undiscovered countryside in Britain. Here, by arrangement, you can go on a guided Cumbrian Wildlife Safari with local wildlife artist Ashley Boon. Some of the species you will have the opportunity of sighting will include Red Grouse, Black Grouse, Wheatear, Dipper, Grey Wagtail, Roe Deer and Red Squirrel. Fishing trips with a qualified instructor can also be arranged.
Three excellent 18 hole golf courses lie within ten miles at Brampton, Carlisle and Crosby (the Eden course). The links courses at Silloth, Powfoot and Southerness make for great day trips.
There are several good local pubs and a renowned restaurant in nearby Castle Carrock.
The historic border city of Carlisle is ten miles away and Hadrians Wall, the Lake District and the Scottish Borders all lie within 30 minutes.
